Material Selection

TC workwear fabric vs four-way stretch fabric: how to choose before sampling.

TC fabric and stretch fabric solve different workwear problems. This guide compares structure, movement, finishing and sourcing risk before uniforms or protective clothing enter sampling.

Comparison table

Decision factor TC workwear fabric Four-way stretch fabric
Best fit Repeat uniform programs, municipal safety workwear, stable procurement and standard woven garment styles. Active workwear, outdoor safety apparel, bending or reaching movements and comfort-sensitive garment briefs.
Structure logic A stable polyester-cotton woven route that can balance durability, hand feel and cost control. Stretch performance is designed into the material so the garment can move with the wearer.
Review risk Do not assume all TC fabrics have the same color, shrinkage, finishing or report context. Stretch comfort should be checked together with recovery, abrasion, seam behavior and after-wash stability.
Sampling question Is the buyer looking for a stable repeat fabric direction for a uniform program? Does the garment need frequent bending, kneeling, climbing or long-duration movement comfort?

How to choose the first sample route

Start with garment style

Jackets, trousers, vests, coveralls and outdoor utility garments have different expectations for movement, seams, reinforcement and fabric weight.

Map the work movement

If the wearer mainly stands, walks and performs routine tasks, TC may be enough. If the wearer climbs, kneels or reaches repeatedly, stretch deserves earlier testing.

Separate comfort from compliance

A comfortable fabric is not automatically compliant. Visibility, finishing, test evidence and finished-garment construction still need their own review.

FAQ

Is TC fabric cheaper than stretch fabric?
Often TC is more predictable for repeat uniform programs, but price depends on composition, yarn, density, finishing, color, quantity and documentation scope.
Does four-way stretch always mean better workwear?
No. Stretch is valuable when movement comfort is important, but stable woven TC fabric may be better for cost control, repeat production and conventional uniform specifications.
Should I ask for both HM038 and HM095?
If the buyer is still comparing movement comfort and stable TC direction, requesting both references can make the first review more efficient.
